Stretch New Media is a sister organisation to the charity STRETCH which Carlotta Allum founded in 2003 as a result of a project within her Masters in Museum and Gallery Education from London Institute of Education. Carlotta is inspired by her own prison experience in 1996 when she was incarcerated in LA for a serious drug trafficking offence.Stretch aims to facilitate creative partnerships between artists and offenders, and inspire offenders and other marginalised groups to engage creatively with society. Currently the charity is delivering Big Lottery funded digital literacy workshop programmes and using iPads for digital story telling in prisons.
The idea for Stretch New Media came as a direct result of the film work that grew from digital story telling. Stretch was increasingly being asked to make other films for charities that gave examples of good practice or were rooted in story telling principles, and so Stretch New Media was born - a film production service specifically aimed at third-sector organisations.
